How Much Does A Snowboard Cost? + Money Saving Tips

If you are a snowboarder, you will be tempted to buy a snowboard. But how much does a snowboard cost?

In this guide, we will look at how much a snowboard costs and all the factors that influence the price. Additionally, I will give you some tips to save money as much as possible.

how much does a snowboard cost?

An adult snowboard costs between $250 and +$1000. A board for beginners ranges from $250 to $450, while above this range, you generally find boards for intermediate and expert riders.

What influences the price?

#1 Features:

  • The base: Sintered bases are usually more expensive than extruded ones. Read our guide on the differences between extruded and sintered bases.
  • Shape and camber: Typically, camber and more unique shapes are more expensive compared to a simple true twin or flat board.
  • Materials: Snowboards are made of various materials with different features. For example, snowboards with carbon inside are more expensive.
  • Edges: Edges are a crucial part of every snowboard, and there are several technologies. Snowboards with serrated edge or asymmetrical edges are usually more expensive.

#2 Skill Level:

The skill level for which a snowboard is built is directly linked to its features.

A snowboard for beginners is usually true twin, flat, and with an extruded base, costing between $250 and about $450.

For intermediate and advanced riders, prices range from $450 to +$1000. The price is directly proportional to the performance and quality of the snowboard.

Note: This does not mean a beginner snowboard can not do what experts do. Specific features and higher quality make riding easier, but remember, a pro could perform tricks almost as well with a beginner board. You get what I mean.

#3 Type of Snowboard:

Cheaper snowboards are typically freestyle boards, as their features are simpler to build.

More expensive ones are for freeride and splitboarding due to their complex features, such as directional camber and shape, or dual functionality in the case of splitboards.

#4 Brand:

The brands vary mainly by the availability of snowboards with more price ranges and the technologies used.

For example, as of the writing of this guide (11/23), Lib Tech snowboards range from $500 to +$1000, Burton boards from $400 to +$1000, and Decathlon/Wed’ze boards cost between $200 and $300.

Pro tip: Do not focus only on choosing a snowboard from a specific brand because it is the most well-known.

I recommend reading our guide to discover the best snowboard brands.

#5 Age of the Snowboarder:

Snowboards are categorized for adults and children and of course the prices and sizes available are very different.

Sometimes, they are also divided between men and women, but the only difference is the size availability while the price remains the same.

Tips for Saving Money:

#1 Used or New?

Buying a new snowboard is more expensive than buying a used one. Sometimes, it is worth buying used, but you need to evaluate the board’s condition.

Check our guide on how to understand whether to buy a new or used snowboard.

#2 Wait for the Pre-Season.

Brands release new models or modify existing ones before the season. These models are often more expensive, but not always with innovations justifying the price increase.

Sometimes changes are only on the graphic. So, wait for the pre-season to buy a snowboard and find great discounts.

Personal experience: My snowboard (ride zero) cost +$500 at the beginning of the 22-23 season, but I bought it at the beginning of the 23-24 season for $350!

#3 Check Selected Retailers:

Some retailers like Rei, Evo, or Blue Tomato offer a wide range of snowboards from all brands. They often have models from previous seasons that manufacturers no longer sell, making them cheaper but still of high quality.

Now that you know how much a snowboard costs, what influences the price, and tips on how to save money, you can make a more informed choice.
